When you’re not ready yet.

When you’re not ready yet.

Christmas day is rapidly approaching and I feel the pressure of crunch time.  Now is when you have to choose your top priorities and come to terms with the fact that some things just won’t happen this year.  I hate being under pressure.  Instead of propelling me forward with extra momentum, it seems to bear down upon my shoulders and stall my efforts as though some invisible force is borrowing me into the ground.

But I know how it is “suppose” to work.  You have a grand event on a certain date, you outline what tasks need to be done, schedule them on the remaining days and then when all the preparations have been completed and everything is “perfect” that grand event happens.  I mean, that’s how events in our life are suppose to play out, right?  Only rarely does it actually happen that way.

I mean I have a toddler and a preschooler and they don’t get how “the process” is suppose to work!  I have things break down, unexpected interruptions, relationships and just plain life that gets in the way and throws this process out the window.  Somehow, that main events shows up and I can’t help but think, “But, I’m not ready, yet!”

As I was driving in my car one day, I was thinking about one of God’s biggest events.  It was thousands of years in the making and involved countless people in the execution.  It was when God gave us the greatest gift we will ever receive – the gift of His son as a tiny baby, born into our world.

Surely, God can make things happen on time, especially when He sets the date, but do you know when he choose for this event to happen?  In the middle of messy life, when things weren’t ready yet.  Just think about it for a moment.  Here were an engaged Mary and Joseph, traveling to a distant land for a census (talk about an interruption) while Mary was pregnant (change of plans for sure!) before they even had a place to stay (God, did you look at the schedule?) and this is when God choose for His son to be born.

And you know what?  That encourages me, because God works and accomplishes His plans, even before we’re “ready”.  Even, in the middle of messy life when things change and our plans go awry, God accomplishes amazing things.  So, we can still make plans and try to have some order to our lives, just remember that God will show up when HE is ready 🙂
