Don’t go in hungry.

Don’t go in hungry.

They warn you, but I had done it anyway. I couldn’t figure out why every sweet dessert and salty snack seemed to jump off the shelve aiming for my cart. Normally I go in with a clear plan of attack and shopping list in hand, but today it seemed like a loosing battle. And then it hit me. I had broken the cardinal rule of grocery shopping — I had gone in hungry.

Luckily on the ranking of epic fails, taking a few extra treats out in my bags doesn’t even make the list. However, as I smiled at the effect of hunger as I unloaded my bags I was struck with another thought.

How often do I go into my day hungry? Maybe not for physical food, but maybe it’s grasping for control when everything seems chaotic or looking for affirmation and acceptance for who I am and what I am purposing to do. Just like my shopping trip looks different when I am full and satisfied during my trek, how different would my day be if I started out full and satisfied with God’s presence in my life. Maybe I wouldn’t feel the need to gain control on EVERYTHING, just the part that is mine responsibility. Maybe instead of looking for affirmation from people around me, I would be confidence in who God made me to be and deliberate in carry out HIS plans for my life.

Think you could use a little more peace or patience in your day? Wish you would have a little more kindness or self control with those around you? These are just a few of the things that come out of us when we fill up with time spent in God’s presence.

So the next time you find chaos and insecurity, fear and irritation jumping into your cart and your day. Take time to fill up on time with the only person who can truly satisfy.
