When you wonder why God hasn’t provided more….

When you wonder why God hasn’t provided more….

One of the first words my son used regularly was “more”.  As a toddler, lots of the day revolved around food and snacks.  It sure was helpful as a parent when he could let me know when he was satisfied and when he wanted more.  Sometimes we ask God as our Heavenly Father for “more” and wonder when He doesn’t seem to answer our request. Money is a touchy topic and I can’t presume to explain the “why” behind your particular situation.  We live in a imperfect world and many things impact our financial resources.  Just like anything else we experience God can take anything, even when it seems hopeless and turn it into something amazing.  It fact, it’s one of my favorite things about God and my favorite verse from...

When life interrupts our plans – being faithful even when we can’t be consistent

When life interrupts our plans – being faithful even when we can’t be consistent

If you’ve been following my blog for any length of time, you may have wondered why it’s been awhile since I posted anything.  Quite simply, it’s been life.  Struggling with bouts of asthma, taking care of my family and sometimes just plain exhaustion pushed writing to a back burner.  Just when I was talking to God and telling Him how discouraged I felt that I was missing my normal posting days, He reminded me that I can faithful even when I can’t be consistent.      “We make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps” Ps 16:7 NLT Being faithful means I can start my day in communication with God, expressing my need for Him in my life and my inability to do life on my own and in my own strength.  That conversation can take...

The Allure of Candlelight – drawing others to God

The Allure of Candlelight – drawing others to God

Every kid I have ever met has a fascination with flashlights.  Big or small, dim or bright, flashlights are just fun.  No matter how many times I try to remind them, though, the same thing always happens.  In their fun exploration and desire to same their experience with me, inevitably the light is always shown right into my eyes.  Instead of sharing their view, I squint and turn away, shimmering spots still lingering in my vision. The last time I had a bright light shown in my eyes, I felt God’s nudge to help me better understand some people’s experience with Christians.  Instead of shining a light on God to illuminate His incredible gift of love, a person can feel blinded when the light is shown in their eyes in an attempt to show them their...

When we just can’t do it – reaching our limit

When we just can’t do it – reaching our limit

I’ve noticed an interesting stage in toddler development.  It is after they have learned how to stand and walk, but have yet to master the skill of jumping.  I’ve watched them as they intently study another older child jumping and do their best to imitate them.  Feet together, bend your knees and push.  Only in the toddler, their little push just makes them stumbling forward a little instead of leaving the ground.  Have you ever felt that same way?  That no matter how hard you try, you just can’t quite do it?  There is something you are trying to be, yet when it comes down to it, you can’t leave the ground? There comes a time when we are face to face with our limitations.  I think we are all well aware of the fact that each person has...

Where our efforts and God’s power meet.

Where our efforts and God’s power meet.

God works through inspiration, but also through obedience. Sometimes God inspires us and then sets us in motion. Other times He gives us instructions and waits for us to take the next steps, meeting us at the finish line.  Both ways the results are good. There are times when I am creative.  There are also certain things that I enjoy being creative with, but I wouldn’t consider myself a highly creative person.  When I do create something I normally need to wait until inspiration strikes.  Otherwise, you would find me sitting there stressing trying to put things together and being unhappy with the result.   In comparison when inspiration strikes it happens almost without effort.  All I need to do is write down the words that have been flowing through my mind,...

Jumping Life’s Hurdles

Jumping Life’s Hurdles

There is something so majestic about watching a horse jump.  I wish I could say I’ve had the pleasure of riding one and being in the air with it, but the closest I’ve come is watching from a distance.  I was watching a show with horses as one of the main characters in the story line.  Part of the storyline was about a trainer trying to help a horse.  The problem was when the horse approached a hurdle, instead of flying over it, it would come to a halting and abrupt stop. I think inherently I expect most days to be a trail ride.  A nice leisurely stroll on even ground with plenty space in front of me to see what’s coming.  So when some hurdle shows up in my path, many times they trip me up or I lose my momentum and come to a screeching halt....

Choosing to procrastinate

Choosing to procrastinate

Pressure.  Some people love it, but I hate it.  If you want to ruin something I love to do, just put me under a tight deadline and it will suck the pleasure right out of it.  Oh, I will probably still get it done if it’s important enough, but it will be tense and my patience will be stretched thin.  The work that I am doing isn’t really the problem.  It is the environment that makes it difficult. God has been showing me lately that there are ways I can change my environment so that I can enjoy doing what needs to be done…..and surprise, surprise, it’s much easier to be patient. It’s about making choices.  Choices are a parent’s best friend.  Need your toddler to get dressed, give them the choice of the red or blue shirt....
